Prizes! Come get some!

Excuse the crappy image quality!  This stuff looks better in person.  It should also be noted that those four rectangular things on top of the Hold Fast shirt are not stickers, they are cigarette rolling papers . . .

Push off in two days!

We have fifteen spots left.  Online registration ends on Friday night at 11pm.  We'll register folks in person if we don't sell out online, but if you definitely want to do it, you should probably register online to be sure.

And as some people have been asking what to expect, here's a bit of a teaser/spoiler.  The images below are representative of what the mixed terrain segment looks like:

See y'all in a few days!

Fillin' up!

We have about 20 spots left. If we don't sell out before the race, we'll take day of registration. If you know you definitely want to do it, you may want to pre-register.

May 17 updates!

I rode out to the farm this weekend and worked out some details.  Ultimately, we've simplified a lot so we can all just get in where we fit in.

Here's what's up:

  • We're out of car spots.  If you want a ride down on Friday evening and a ride back to SF on Sunday morning, email me (racetothemammoth{at}gmail.com) and we can make it work.
  • We'll be doing Sunday, June 3, drops at the top of the hill to the Menlo Park Caltrain station.  We'll run the bus as long as it takes to get everybody to the top of the hill for a downhill ride of about 15 miles to the Menlo Park Caltrain station.  We will also still provide cue sheets all the way back to SF (via a route that differs from the route down), as well as cue sheets to get you up over the hills to the Menlo Park Caltrain station (about 30 miles from the farm).
  • We're no longer selling dorm floor spots and encouraging y'all to bring tents (the campsite area will be a fun time), but if you ain't got a tent to sleep in, we'll find a sheltered spot for you.
  • Anybody who wants one can get a shower.  Sadie will be cooking all day (thus heating the water with the stove heat), so most people should get warm showers.  If you arrive later, you may need to take a cold/lukewarm shower, but if you're into it, you can get it.
  • We won't be hosting any bands in the dorm, but we'll have a banjo and an acoustic guitar that we can play out at the campsite as late as we want.
  • FYI: The campsite has a water fountain (the closest to the spring) and an outhouse.  Also, you may want to bring a headlamp.
  • Since some folks were apprehensive about it, this will no longer be a rain or shine event.  If we have bad weather, WE WILL either honor the registration on a makeup date or refund your money, your choice.

More details coming early next week

I'll be heading out to the farm this weekend to hang with the fellas, finalize the route, and work out as many of the remaining details as possible.  I'll have a pretty solid update early next week.

The latest news is that the lovely Sadie, of Bread SRSLY, will be cooking dinner for us!  We'll also be getting certificates for bread loaves and muffins added to the prize pool.

Crumpler is now on board as a sponsor too!

Radical.

Back to SF

We'll be doing Sunday, June 3, drops at the top of the hill to the Menlo Park Caltrain station.

There is a possibility that some folks may be able to hop a ride to a Caltrain station, but DO NOT expect that as an option at this point.  You'll be provided with a cue sheet to get you back to SF along a route that differs from the route down, as well as one to get you to a Caltrain station that's about 30 (hilly) miles awayThere will be a no rider left behind group heading to Caltrain on Sunday morning.  You're welcome to invite a friend to drive down to party on Saturday night and drive you (and your bike) back to SF on Sunday, but please have them register because our space is limited.

We'll transport one bag for you, from SF to Pescadero and back.  Pick up your bag on Sunday at  Dolores Park, where I'll be posting up for several hours in the afternoon into the early evening.  If that doesn't work for you, we can work something out.

Dinner, Party, & Sleeping

  • All participants and volunteers will be provided with plenty of food and beer.
  • Festivities will follow dinner.
  • We're no longer looking for bands/DJs, but will instead have a banjo and acoustic guitar available for folks to play out by the campsite.
  • There are several spots to camp around the farm.  Get in where you fit in, pick a spot, and pitch your tent. The main campsite has a water fountain (the closest to the spring) and an outhouse.  You may also want to bring a headlamp.
  • Similarly, the dorm has lots of space on the floor and even a couch spot for one lucky bastard.  We're not selling dorm spaces anymore and, instead, encouraging folks to bring tents.  However, if you don't bring a tent, we'll definitely find you a sheltered spot to sleep, so never fear.  Regardless, you should at least bring a sleeping bag and/or pad.

Fun Ride

The fun ride is for folks who are interested in a casual cruise along the coast.  This will be a no rider left behind cruise, but please be sure that you are a competent rider capable of riding 50+ miles with hills and dirt.  All riders should come prepared with their own tools/parts for basic roadside repairsminimally, this would include a multitool, patch kit, spare tube, spoke wrench, pump, and lights.

  • Register starting at 11am at the McKinley statue in the Panhandle (at Baker Street).
  • Fun ride starts shortly after the racers push off at noon
  • The route is still being finalized and will not be available until race day, but expect 45-55 miles expect about 50 miles.   Some light mixed terrain will be included on the route, but nothing a road bike couldn't handle.  Based on the most likely route, I'd recommend 25c or 28c tires, but you could get by with 23c and be fine.  The route will be finalized by mid May and I can give a few more specifics then, but I don't want to give too much away (though I don't think it'll be hard to guess it).  The route features about 45 miles of road and only about 5 miles of dirt/broken road.
  • Everybody will get a raffle ticket for a chance to win something.  Check out the sponsors page for prize info.

  • Rain or shine.  If we have bad weather, WE WILL either honor the registration on a makeup date or refund your money, your choice.

The Basics

June 2, 2012

Come race with us from San Francisco to Pescadero!  The race ends at an organic, off the grid farm in Pescadero.  Some light mixed terrain will be included on the route, but nothing a road bike couldn't handle.  Registration includes dinner, camping spot, party, beer, and the transportation of a bag (for your sleeping bag/pad/tent/clothes/etc).  A limited number of spots are available in a bare bones dorm for $5 more.  We'll also have about 10 spots on a short bus to bring along friends who just want to party.  Prizes for first fixed, first woman, and general classifications.

There will also be a no rider left behind casual pace fun ride for folks who ain't up for racing but are down for a good ride.

We've got some sponsors in the works and are finalizing plans for a DJ, but are definitely interested in more sponsorships and more music.  If you'd like to sponsor or play music, get in touch!

REGISTER

We need volunteers!

We'll need checkpoint workers, stuff transporters, food cookers, fun ride leaders, and more.  Volunteers will get to party & camp for free and are all entered into the raffle.  We have enough volunteers!  Thanks y'all!
